Preoperative Instructions for IV Sedation
FOOD & DRINK
Do not eat or drink anything after midnight the night before your surgery appointment if you are having IV sedation. (NO breakfast, snacks, coffee, water or food of any kind the morning of the appointment.) Take all prescribed medications with a sip of water!
No smoking for at least 12 hours before surgery. Ideally, cut down or stop smoking as soon as possible prior to the day of surgery.
It is required that a responsible family member or friend drive you to your appointment and then drive you home when your surgery is complete. This person must report with you to the office when you check in for the surgery AND stay at the office through the duration of the surgery. The surgery will last approximately one to two hours. We are unable to treat you if you do not bring a responsible adult.
Any person under the age of 18, who is not an emancipated minor, must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who must sign a treatment consent form.
CLOTHING & VALUABLES
Wear comfortable, loose clothing and low heel shoes. Leave all jewelry and valuables at home.
MAKE UP & CONTACTS
Eye makeup, lipstick, nail polish and other cosmetics should not be worn. Contacts should be removed.
If you have an iPod or portable music player, bring it to your surgery.
